Dear Parents and Guardians:
If your child’s 2021-2022 STAAR-EOC test score shows Did Not Meet (Did Not Pass), please review the information below:
As previously shared, “HOUSE BILL (HB) 4545” eliminated the grade retention and retesting requirements (tied to STAAR results in grades 5 and 8) and replaced those requirements with an Accelerated Instruction Tutorial requirement for any student, who does not take the STAAR/EOC tests; and any student, who scores in the "Did Not Meet (Did Not Pass)" category on a STAAR/EOC. In other words, a student must receive an Accelerated Instruction Tutorial (30 hours) for every subject-area State test without a score or without a passing score.
Here’s the good news: Port Arthur ISD will provide HB 4545 Accelerated Instruction Tutorials (at no cost), during Summer School, for students, who did not pass this year’s STAAR/EOC test(s). Summer School provides opportunity for your child to build knowledge, skills, and confidence in preparation for next year’s curricula and next year’s STAAR/EOC Tests. Therefore, Summer School is required for students who need STAAR/EOC Tutorials even when local requirements for promotion are met. Schools will notify the parents of students eligible for this summer learning opportunity.
Thank you for your continued support of summer programs,
Dr. Melvin Getwood, Assistant Superintendent
Mrs. Carmen Hudson, At-Risk Program Supervisor
Dr. Kim Vine, Chief Academic Officer
Dr. Tatiana Morales, Executive Director of Curriculum/Instruction
