Welcome to 4th Grade Social Studies!
For me, the goal for any classroom should be to challenge students and watch them grow to their full potential. It would be an amazing privilege to take students at different levels and watch them develop together, as a team, for the advancement of each individual.
While group work is key to having a successful class. The class should function as a team.
The impact of group work, when students help fellow students, helps each person grow and creates the environment that the class is a whole, not a sum of individuals.
In my classroom, I want students to have freedom that allows for expression and creativity. in a constructive way. The students should be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and to realize their strengths and weaknesses. After this base is developed, the curriculum can be molded to tie in each student’s learning style.
I want to teach students in a way that has some straightforward instruction, but that also gives students room to grow and expand on their own. They can bring this individual knowledge back to the group and enhance the overall knowledge level.
At the beginning of the year, it is understandable for the teacher to lead class discussions, but by the end of the year, students should be able to pose their own questions and try to answer them independently. “I do, we do, you do.”
