Dianne Brown is vice president of the Port Arthur ISD Board of Trustees and is serving her second term as a member. The Opelousas (Louisiana) Senior High School graduate was employed by the PAISD for 25 years, before her retirement. During that time, she worked as a classroom aide, office aide, warehouse supervisor and part-time bus driver.
Mrs. Brown attributes her affiliations with the Title 1 Parent Involvement and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) with giving her the knowledge necessary to help PAISD make solid decisions benefitting all students. She has also participated in conducting staffing reviews that have resulted in reassignments and fair salary adjustments. Mrs. Brown is especially proud that the Board of Trustees has approved balanced budgets each year she has been on the board.
Some of Mrs. Brown’s accomplishments as a PAISD board trustee include working with the Port Arthur Teacher’s Credit Union to create a location at Memorial High School, approving an agreement with the Texas Education Agency to participate in a new appraisal system for teachers and administrators and helping move the district’s financial rating from “negative outlook” to “stable outlook.”
Mrs. Brown and her husband, Charles, have lived in Port Arthur for more than 40 years. They have two sons and eight grandchildren, all of whom graduated from PAISD with honors. Mrs. Brown believes the excellent education her children and grandchildren received have provided them opportunities for growth that are beneficial to their communities.
