The donation will be divided between Hamshire-Fannett High School, Lamar State College Port Arthur, Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeast Texas, and Port Arthur Memorial High School Career and Technology Center. “We are grateful to Flint Hills Resources for this generous donation,” said Betty Reynard, president of Lamar State College Port Arthur. “Year after year Flint Hills Resources shows their commitment to education by partnering with us to help prepare our students for productive careers.”
Flint Hills Resources is committed to supporting education in the communities they serve. Since 2015, Flint Hills Resources has provided scholarships to high school seniors pursuing higher education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or math as well as skills certificates. This year, Flint Hills Resources is offering 28 scholarships to local seniors in the Golden Triangle area totaling $42,000 in donations. Approximately 40% of the scholarship recipients will attend a technical college.
“There are many good careers in the construction industry, like welder, to be filled by a well-trained work force. Skilled workers provide a safer workplace, produce better work, and receive higher wages,” said Horace Brown, director of education for Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeast Texas. “Donations like this from Flint Hills Resources aid in providing construction training to both our high school students and local citizens.”
“We are committed to being good neighbors in the communities we operate and making them better places to live and work,” said Larry Van Horn, operations manager for Flint Hills Resources. “By supporting local schools, we hope this donation helps better prepare welding students for the workforce and we’re honored to play a small part in developing their careers.”
