Dress Code Standards

Text Box: Effective August 27, 2007. According to Board Policy FNCA, all students are expected to wear the following: Navy blue, light blue or white polo style shirts (long or short sleeved) and black, navy blue, or khaki pants, skirts or knee length shorts. 
The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, and avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority.  Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

 

Text Box: Shirts
Standard colors: white, light blue, navy blue
Collared, knit, button polo/golf style shirt or dress style (oxford style) buttoned shirts/blouses (long or short sleeve) and fits appropriately.
Undershirts must be white, or same color as top shirt
Males – Shirts must be long enough to tuck in and always be tucked in

School Spirit Shirts 
PAISD Titan shirts or approved club or athletic shirts will be permitted on District-wide designated Sprit Days, such as Memorial high school varsity home and away football and varsity home basketball or campus administration approved days—up to 15 days per year. Allowable school spirit clothing includes Memorial High School colors, only!
Exceptions may  be made at the campus level 

Not Allowed
Cap sleeves or sleeveless shirts
Zippered shirts,
Tight, extremely form fitted, see through/transparent shirts, strapless or bare midriff tops or exposes the chest or torso 
Low cut shirts
Shirts that can not be buttoned up to the neck.

Shorts, Skirts, Pants, Slacks
Standards colors: khaki, light blue, navy blue, black
Tailored
Knee length or longer
Hemmed or cuffed; not dragging the floor
Free from frays, holes, and cuts
Belt must be worn if belt loops are present
Must be worn at the waist and fit in the seat

Not Allowed
Baggy, oversized styles, oversized pockets, spandex, low rise, and sweats are not permitted
Coveralls and overalls are not permitted
Jean, denim, leather, suede, and vinyl materials are not permitted
Brads, studs, or other embellishments are not permitted
No athletic type shorts (shiny shorts)
Pants gathered or tied at the ankle.

Belts
Standard colors black, white, light blue or navy blue.
Must be buckled at all times
Must be worn inside belt loops not over clothes
Appropriately sized
No oversized buckles or No excessive decorations

Not Allowed
Chain or metal
Ties, fringe, or scarf type belts
Must be appropriately sized in the shoulders, sleeves, and length, and must be worn over collared polo shirt.

Footwear
Standard colors, for example, white, light blue, navy blue, red, gray 
Leather style boots are acceptable (pants are to be worn outside of the boot)
Shoes must match and be buckled or tied

Not Allowed
Flip Flops, backless shoes 

Outerwear, Jackets, and Sweaters, 
Standard colors, for example, black, white, light blue, or navy blue, gray
Coats may be allowed in accordance with appropriate weather conditions 
Must be unbuttoned or unzipped upon entering the building.
PAISD Titan Letterman/Reward Jackets may be worn
No logos are allowed

Not Allowed
Trench coats
Hoodies, except for those distributed or approved by the school administration
Short vests or sweaters above the waistline

Jewelry
Extremely large or bulky jewelry will not be allowed

Other Guidelines
Standard colors: white, light blue, navy blue 
Career or Business Dress includes business suits, vest and dresses and meet administrative approval. 
Startling, unusual, or immodest attire of any sort shall not be permitted
Gang related clothing or ,jewelry are not permitted
Hats, scarves, bandannas, hair coverings are not permitted (unless item is religious based and approved)
Hair is to be clean and well groomed
Unusual coloring or excessive hair styles that may be a distraction are not allowed
Visible body piercing other than earrings are not allowed
Girls must wear sufficient undergarments that are not visible
Clear or Mesh Backpacks Only (No large bags, sports bags, or purses)

Special Needs Students
Students who have special needs may be granted a waiver on an individual basis by the administration

 

Administrative Discretion

· Special days for out-of-the-ordinary dress will be left to the discretion of and announced by the principal from time to time during the year for career days, special holidays etc.

· Exceptions to the dress code due to medical reasons may be granted subject to approval by the administration.

· The administration reserves the right to amend the dress code and to ban additional items without prior notification.

 

Violation Consequences:

A student whose clothing violates the dress codes shall be assigned to in-school suspension either for the remainder of the day or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.

 

Repeated dress code offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action as determined by campus administration. Appropriate discipline procedures shall be followed in all cases in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
