Back in 1993, TEA said improve your scores or we’ll close your school and lock the doors. We had to do something so that we would not reach our demise, Travis had to get its TAKS scores to rise. Our staff put their heads together and came to the realization we need a new method; let’s try departmentalization. To make this long story short, let me summarize for the past 8 years Travis was Recognized. In 2001, even with a high mobility rate Travis received the highest rating from the state “Exemplary.” Now this school year of 2006-2007, we’ve used all of our successful tools, Travis plans once again to be a “State Recognized” school.
