Dr. Johnny E. Brown

 

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

 

Dr. Johnny E. Brown was employed as Superintendent of Port Arthur Schools in August 2006.  Before coming to Port Arthur, he worked as an educational consultant in DeKalb County, Georgia. A native of Austin, Texas, Dr. Brown has spent his career in schools in Texas, Ohio and Alabama and Georgia. He began his career as a life science and physical education teacher and coach in San Antonio, Texas.  Dr. Brown also taught in Austin and was principal of a middle school there; he also served as a leader in central administration.  He worked in the Houston Independent School District in the capacity of executive deputy superintendent and as superintendent of the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District in the Dallas area.  Dr. Brown also served as superintendent of the Birmingham City and DeKalb County School Districts.

 

Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor and Master degrees from Texas State University (was named Southwest Texas State University) and his Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.  He and his wife, Carolyn, have three children, two of whom are college graduates and one is presently in college.

 

Dr. Brown is humbled and honored by the many years of opportunities to serve and support the children and, therefore, the communities in which he and his family have lived. He has consistently provided positive and effective leadership for increases in achievement and test scores, raising standards, building new schools and renovating others, strengthening fiscal stability, focusing on excellence and equity for all, and forging partnerships for all concerned with the children and their welfare.

 

Dr. Brown is a dedicated leader who has great plans for Port Arthur.  He realizes that Port Arthur is at the beginning of tremendous growth, and it is his commitment to have Memorial High School graduates prepared to enter college or the work-force and be successful at whatever they pursue.
