Counseling

Counselors are available to provide support to students when they are dealing with issues that impact them emotionally, physically, and socially.

Mentoring Programs

Counselors assist with identifying students that are in need of mentoring. They work with the Principal and At-Risk Coordinator to ensure students have an opportunity to participate in mentoring opportunities such as Project MASS. Please contact your school counselor if you believe your child would benefit from building a positive relationship with a mentor. Parents and others interested in being a mentor may complete and submit the Project MASS Mentor Application.

Academic Advising

Counselors advise students about coursework and postsecondary options. Counselors are responsible for reviewing student transcripts and schedules to ensure they are on progress.

Testing and Assessment

Counselors are responsible for coordinating all campus testing. Please contact your counselor if you have questions or concerns related to testing.

Initiatives to Reduce High School Drop Outs

Ninth Grade Transition Program:  Ninth graders who are slightly deficient in credits (1 or 2) are allowed on contingency basis to attend Memorial High.  Conditions are that parents maintain contact with the school, attendance and conduct be acceptable, and participation in Credit Recovery to obtain lacking credits.

RECLAIM:  Initiative for credit sufficient non-graduates who have not mastered all areas of TAKS. They are provided continued support and instruction at PAAC.  The Graduation Counselor is assigned to assist them, as well.

REDIRECT:  Initiative to assist twenty plus seniors who are at risk.  They are being provided targeted instruction and support at PAAC.  The Graduation Counselor and staff at PAAC are assigned to assist these high-risk students to ensure graduation from high school.

Of course, other instructional programs (Tutorials, Extended Day, Credit Recovery, During -School and After-School SAT Prep, etc.) are in place to assist students in being more academically successful.
